This is the blog for the After-School Zone. We created this to give people a forum to talk about games, and to stay in contact with people even if you're not at the Library playing games.
Phillip works part-time at the Library and goes to college full-time.
Allison works at the Library full-time.
Phillip's favorite games are: the Tekken series, the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy, the Metroid series, the Metal Gear series and anything Atari Jaguar-related. He generally likes RPGs, shooters, action-platform, and fighting games. Phillip wouldn't waste his money on an average game if he could buy an outstanding one.
Allison's favorite games are RPGs, rhythm games, or sims. So she likes the Sims, Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and a bunch of RPGs. She doesn't mind average - or even lame - games as much as Phillip does.
2/23/10 Smash Bros Brawl 1v1 weekly results due to popular demand:
1st Kevin 2nd Brandon 3rd Morris 3rd Mark
Not much to say about Kevin; dominating performance as usual. Mark underachieves once again while Brandon has a really good showing. Morris is consistently in the top 4, but needs to actually practice (suprise) to get better. Bo, a veteran of the After School Zone, also deserves special mention here as he took Kevin to the limit with his Wario play. Come back more often Bo and make tournaments here more interesting!
Today we have Tatsunoko instead of Brawl, the Halo tourney, and we'll be trying out Sega-All Stars Racing for Wii. Later guys, and keep posting.
In 2nd we have Morris this is the farthest he has ever got in this compition EVER and will remain so.
Tied is 3rd is Vince who came out of know where taking me from suprise (i should on used Zero Suit XP) and True whom is no suprise to me is 3rd thats the truth folks!
First of all, sorry AJ. I know you wanted a Halo tournament for a while; however, I did mention the tourney was this week. Congrats to Morris for winning his first-ever tournament at the library. Victor was the favorite, but kinda choked. Don't worry, you'll get there eventually. Halo tournaments are on the first Wed of the month.
The Just Dance tourney is a good idea. I think we'll do one on Wed or Thurs next week.
As far as SFIV is concerned, the plan was to get it for our future PS3, becuase the 360's controller is absolutely terrible for fighting games. Plus, as it is now, the 360 is the Halo console is the eyes of most players.
I don't want to guarantee anything, but I think getting a PS3 over the next year is not out of the question. I'll write more about the library's future console plans later.
Good job to Kevin as usual. Good job to Mark for getting 2nd, but less excuses and more practice next time. Bo, you did great, but next time focus on winning the match. What happened?
i think you should really get a ps3 so we could have MVC2 tourneys and other games that are not brawl or halo because those two game are getting played out and its making me angry
Sorry for the late reply guys. I think Tuesday's tourney was one of the best ever for Brawl at the library. Turnout was great, and the competition was some of the strongest seen so far. I do wish more players would show up on time, however. Making the bracket was difficult because it had to be rewritten in order to accommodate the latecomers. For the next one, show up by 4 guys, or let me know you're going to be late. Anyways, Kevin wins again in what is turning into a very dominating performance. I believe only Alvin has more wins than him at this point. His road to the finals wasn't easy either as he had to play tough matches against Bo and others. The finals against Mark were again a little anti-climatic as his Diddy dropped 2 games in a row, but still decent. I do think this tournament cements Mark's position as the #2 guy, as he had a tough road as well, but he has to get over the hump if he wants any chance of beating Kevin.
Special mention to Morris for receiving the upset of the day. He was close to winning his match against Cabbage (what's his real name btw?), and he gets hit into the bomb on Bridge of Eldin for the instant loss. Keep your head up Morris :)
Last but not least, we're going to start putting up matches on Youtube, starting with this week's finals. Thanks to everyone who participated!
About a week ago I had a long, complicated post all typed out for you, but I accidentally deleted it. :( So here's the synopsis.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is a really good fighting game, but I think it'll be a while before we start playing it. We're still playing Tatsunoko, and I want to introduce the fighting games slowly so there is enough time to get into all of them. If you're here on Monday though, We'll try out Soul Calibur 4. If not, happy birth day True!
Another tourney in the books. Kevin wins, as usual. Mark gets 2nd. No surprises there. Morris has a good showing again and almost takes out Mark. Nice job Morris!
The shocker of the day has to go to Beau. He once again potentially dropped a match that he could have won by taunting and fooling around at the end. Does he care if he wins or not? Who knows. He is interesting to watch though. :) What will Beau do at the next one?
Next week we'll be trying out double elimination, provided the competition is decent and there are enough players in the tourney that it makes sense. It will be the only tourney for two weeks as I'm going on vacation for spring break.
Personally, I think that Beau doesn't really try. Either that or he doesn't see the real point in winning. Either way, Beau is a good competitor and is exciting to watch, because he is unpredictable in all of his matches.
Either way, we have some great talent every Tuesday, and the competition is only going to get tighter. Man, Calvin put up a show. The new comer knocked Brendan and Vincent in shocking fashion. All while playing as Kirby, one of the more difficult characters to play as.
It just goes to show you that anything can happen in these tournaments Every Tuesday.
(Phil, to you, this Tuesday it was Mark that upset Kevin, I know that you will probably post those results later, but I wanted to keep you in the loop. Have fun on your vacation man, and I will be at the tournament running it as always On April 13.)
Originally posted by Morris:But Alvin wasn't that hard to defeat when he played. I defeated him before.
I don't think Alvin plays Brawl anymore, so he's really rusty whenever he does. With that said, the level of play in the After School Zone is now much higher than it used to be. It takes a lot more effort to win now. Actually, it's cool seeing people try to switch things around every week. Players will get much better that way.
The match was rigged. It was just bad luck for me. Oh well I will figure out something on the next tournament. I will try not to get hit by a car ever again.
4/20/10 tournament results 1st Mark 2nd Kevin 3rd Nick 4th Brendan
Each tournament seems to get better and better competition wise. I seeded 10 players which is a first. Beau losing isn't much of a surprise anymore though. This time he said he allowed Brendan to win. I think Brendan's Game n Watch in better than Beau's Captain Falcon. Morris keeps losing matches in a spectacular fashion. He was about to beat Mark on percentage when he walks off the stage. Shocking.
I feel so sorry for Morris when he did that. I think Morris will win a tournament if he's confident, find the right character, and close out the match. I think these are the keys for Morris if he wants to win. What do you think Phil?
Yeah, I agree pretty much. And practice! Learn some basic combos, watch videos of good players playing. The more you play the game, the more confident you'll become.
Note about the Brawl tournament. We will be doing teams, but with a couple caveats. A person in the top 4 of rankings/seeds may not team with someone else in the top 4. Also, team attack will be on. This will force people to use actual teamwork and communicate. Hopefully this mixes things up.
The Halo 3 tourney will be on the 1st Wednesday in May (the 5th). I think it might be interesting to do "Superzombie" instead the usual Slayer variant. Anyone have comments on this?
That tourney was filled with suprises. First of all, Kevin lost because of Sonic's stage. That was stupid because he should have lived. Second, I lost to Kevin and Beau in basically the same way: falling. Then, Mark lost to me. Anyone else have any comments? AND CONGRATULATIONS TO BEAU FOR WINNING HIS FIRST( I think) TOURNAMENT.
To be honest I think Beau had the whole tournament won because how I lost to him so fast in the second round. Next week it's all going to change. Whoever faces me is getting Pulverized.
Now's as good a time as any to talk about the tournament results. There were a surprising amount of upsets. Maybe players are used to the slightly longer matches that took place during the team tournament. Or maybe things are a little different now. I guess we'll see next week.
One thing that was noteworthy came from Nick S yesterday. He gave up his match in the finals before it even started declaring that Pikachu cannot beat Wolf. The thing is, when you have that kind of mindset during a match, it's basically a self fulfilling prophecy. No matter what the odds are, you always go into a game believing you can win. People do this in professional sports all the time. Positive attitude in many cases is much more important than match ups or even skill. As long as you play hard and be aggressive, you can win any match.
Can we run both tourneys at the same time? It might work out that way we can still do six pokemon instead of 4 and have enough time to finish up Brawl and do another Brawl tourney which Chip will be moderating.
Thought I'd post the results of the last 2 tournaments:
6/24/10 Brawl singles 1st Beau 2nd Morris 4th Daniel 4th Kevin
7/1/10 Brawl singles 1st Beau 2nd Morris 4th Daniel 4th Kevin
I think I see some trends starting to form. Beau's Metaknight has gone to the next level; a couple weeks ago, he looked almost unstoppable. Morris is playing to his potential. Will Beau and Morris battle in the finals again? Can Daniel get top 4 again now that the surprise factor of Olimar is wearing off? Pretty interesting guys.
Meta Knight is starting to get annoying. He's unstoppable. We might all have to switch up our character rosters in order to even get close to beating him. Stupid God Tier. Anyway, there are a few pretty good counters for Meta Knight. Unfortunately, most of us don't main them and some of them are rather hard to get good with. Doubles next week. Phil, I'm thinking that we can team up with same person just because there aren't that many choices and top 4 should be allowed(cough) to team up. What do you think? We could discuss this tomorrow.
George always says he's just as good as Beau. Interesting to see some new people at the top. Did anyone see these matches? Any comments as I missed most of it.
I'm using R.O.B., Wario, Toon Link, Wolf, King Dedede, Marth, Ike, Olimar, and Captain Falcon now. Who's your new character? And who are you talking to Phil?
Oh I guess I'll one on one George after Beau and Patrick. This is gonna be a long day for me. Kevin if you're using Meta Knight I will scream and run around in circles.
I think we should do teams this week, or at least somewhere along those lines, maybe sometime in the month of September. God, I haven't commented on this blog in forever. xD
As the tournament results should be. Hahaha, just kidding. Anyways, things went great for the tournament this week. Having school however makes it impossible to have 16 man tournaments but, I always do the best I can as moderator to include everyone and anyone in the tourneys, but again, as always, Being there ON TIME is important. But, yeah, good job for Kevin, playing as Ike. It seems that ever since Beau has left, the number one spot has been all but surrendered, and Kevin looks to defend his title. But it will take a serious collapse for Kevin to descend from his high mountain. Can everyone challenge Kevin next week?
1. Brandon/ Nick L. 2. Morris/ Patrick 4. Mark/ Vince 4. Tony/ JP
First I have to say, I'm very shocked by Kevin's early loss. Although he did play by himself for most of the match. The upset of the day goes to Tony beating Kevin 1 on 1. Very intense match between Mark/Vince and Morris/Patrick, with Morris pulling a tight win against both of his opponents by himself! In the finals Morris/Patrick won the first match by a landslide. The second match went to Brandon/Nick, with great help from Nick getting the last KO by himself. Match 3 was very close but The Down + C of Wolf cause the win to go to Brandon/Nick. Nick played great! Congrats! Wow... I think I'm on a roll right now...
Some people have told me that they might not be able to come on Wednesdays. We'll talk about changing the day for next week, but it has to be Wednesday this week because I've already let a lot of people know.
Phil, you should switch it back to Tuesdays, people were used to it before, and it would be better for the rest of us vets. Because we were at our prime when we did it on Tuesdays, plus it's better for me, I only have class until 12 and that's it.
This is kind of weird, but I think it would be cool to have a Melee tournament.. why not? I mean it'd be different, competitive and fun. BTW my mains in that game are Marth and Sheik...
Here are the current results for the 9/28/10 Team Tourney
Unspecified Results: Brandon/ Nick L. Unspecified Results: Morris/ Patrick 3. Kevin/ Vince 4. Mark/ Charlie 4. Angelo/ Amani
So here is what SO FAR. It was double elimination so each team had 2 chances to win the tournament. The match with Mark/Charlie and Morris/Patrick was intense. But Morris/Patrick came out on top. And Kevin/Vince took out Brandon/ Nick after a 10 second death from Nick, causing the team to crash. The winners final came to Kevin/Vince and Morris/Patrick. Moriis/ Patrick took that match and now on to some INTERESTING battles. From the losers bracket the match between Haley/JP and Brandon/Nick. But with a nice comeback brandopn/Nick took it. This match between Mark/Charlie and Brandon/Nick was awkward. Brandon/Nick were cornered when all of the sudden the TV was unplugged, which came to the ruling that everyone except Nick play with one life on the same stage. Brandon was playing for himself as he faced Mark/Charlie alone with Wolf. But Mark died quickly as a cannonball hit him in Pirate Ship. Then Charlie got hit by one and died. As Brandon pulled through for his team. Kevin/Vince kicked out Angelo/Amani easily and the last match of the day was Brandon/Nick and Kevin/Vince. Vince lost the match early and Kevin had 0% and Brandon/Nick had about 100% each with 30 seconds to go, Brandon looked up at the clock and told his partner, "Don't let him touch you, rolling dodge like a champion." Kevin couldn't kill them and they won it. Before the final match started it was declared that time ran out. And the rest of this match will continue next Tuesday. Good job Nick and Morris and Patrick and good luck next Tuesday. Tournament finishes on 10/5/10
For anyone who knows professional Brawl players or watches the matches, Ally(the best Snake player in the world) is dropping Snake for a "better character" it has not yet been announced who it is but speculation is that it is Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, or Meta Knight
I wasn't focusing on brawl that much because I was playing Mario Galaxy 2 last week. Now I'm focusing on getting 5 straight wins and it's goin to happen again.
This week's tourney results: 1. Me 2. Patrick 3. Chip 4. Brandon(?) Chose Diddy so I won whatever. Anyone else can comment if they want. Actually you guys must!
1st - Morris 2nd - Brandon 3rd - Mark 4th - Michael
Well, it would seem that things are shaping up to be very interesting in the game room. A lot of newcomers gave people a good showing. I think I shocked everyone when I actually beat Vince, and lost to Brandon by only 4 damage points, leaving him slightly nervous, with the match against Brandon coming down to the last second. Michael did a good job once again, proving that he was once again, an upcoming star. Kevin's leaving in the early parts of the tournament left many of the field excited, as Kevin left in dismay at the fact that he would forfeit one win.
Nick Strohl is expected to return next week. Lord knows where he will place in the upcoming tournament, but people in the room better keep on their toes in next week's tournament. The shocking thing though, was that Brandon gave in a good effort in 2nd place overall, after surviving a close scare. Nobody knows who will rise up next week. Can Morris take back his number 2 ranking, or will Brandon and Kevin end Morris's title hopes? And with Pikachu's long awaited return, how will the field respond to one of the gameroom's best. That will be all be told next week, in The Benicia Library Gameroom Tuesday Tournament for 11/16. Until then, I hope to see you all on 11/16, and good luck to all that compete. This is Chip Rollins, signing off on another Gameroom update, till next time, Have a good week everybody.
the bad thing is that I can only go on Thursday's now. I might not enter in tournaments anymore unless I can ride my bike. I can't make it next week but maybe the next 2 weeks. I wanted Brandon 2 win that tournament.
Here's what you guys have been waiting for, comprehensive data on the most used IDs in Brawl. I snagged many of the names from the 2nd Wii because they were deleted on the first.
You can see the difference too because character usage is very different. I would've copied the general play data here, but all it says is Ike, Ike, Ike, etc. Interestingly, Meta Knight has recently overtaken Kirby as 2nd most used character.
Sorry this took so long, but it was a lot of work, and I'm lazy. See you at the weekly today!
Even though many of the usual suspects didn't show yesterday, there was still decent turnout. Tony surprised everyone by beating Mark and Vince on his way to the final. He was about to win the final as well, but in the last game on Pirate Ship with seconds left, Vince spikes him under the water for the win. Nice, guys. Tourney at regular time next week.
1st Charlie 1st Simon 3rd Spencer 4th Nik
After Jason's shocking win at the last tourney, no expected him to repeat.....and he didn't, losing in the first round. Some new people did very well in their first tourney, with Spencer actually leading all players in kills going into the last round. No surprise with Simon and Charlie up there.
Nick L. did really well beating out Morris... Morris also rage quits. Nick S. did good too by making i t to the finals but couldn't beat Kevin. Nice job guys!
12/14
1. Kevin 2. Brandon 3. Mark 4. Anthony
First LOL markanthony! Okay anthony did REALLY WELL.. making it to semi finals beating big people like Beau and Patrick. Nearly beat Mark, but Mark got lucky with his Up-B with Diddy. Brandon with a high second place finish. Close at the end but Kevin came out on top. Congrats everyone see you on 12/21 <-- (2012) for the next tournament! We havin tournaments over break or no??
I'm starting to feel it like I did last year with Snake. Almost lost in the 2nd round. It was a REALLY close match until Nick S. got hit with a bomb at the end.
I had problems through the whole tournament. I could've lost early. Anyway major upset of the day I think was was either me or Mark. Brandon pulled out 2 upsets today and winning his first tournament of the year.
Team tournament coming up next week. The teams have been assembled some, have already formed, others will form at the last minute. But, rest assured, these teams will show the highest amount of domination and dignity in their rise to the top. Will Brandon come out victorious and make it 2 tourneys in a row? Or will the "Black Panthers" Team of Patrick and Morris, shut the door. And who knows who Kevin will be partnering with this week, all we know is, the library better watch out for a magical run from the room's number 1 player. All these questions will be answered, statements will be made, rivalries will be formed, This week, in TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT ACTION!!
Results from Today: 1. Kevin and Patrick(Ike and Pit/Mario/Snake/?) 2. Vince and Beau(Toon Link and Wario/Meta Knight) 3. Morris and Chip(Diddy Kong/Toon Link/Snake/Marth and Yoshi) 4. Brandon and Nick L.(Wolf/Game and Watch and Fox/Zero Suit Samus)
Anyway the tournament went great. Good job for Vince and Beau for beating Mark and Nick S. Um Morris did a really good job today and that's all I can say lol
Dudes, does anyone know as to whether or not this week is a Team Tournament? Because I need to know, so I can try to have a partner lined up for the upcoming week.
March 15th 1v1 results: 1st Mark 2nd Anthony 3rd Lambo 4th Charlie
Little Anthony seems to be getting better and better. The only thing that stopped him from beating Mark IMO was that he does not yet know how to handle Diddy's bananas (not to downplay Mark's bananas; this is a big problem). Even Mark said Anthony's MK was better than his own.
So because of spring break, games are only on Tuesday next week. Brawl and Halo tournies though. And I may bring out Marvel 2 or Tatsunoko.
March 23rd 1v1 results: 1st Kevin 2nd Beau 3rd Mark 4th Charlie
This was a really fun tourney guys. With a lot of upsets. Mark beats Nick, which hasn't happened in a while (what was he thinking choosing Fox?). Kevin was knocked out of winners by cannonballs on the Pirate ship stage. George beats Nick, and Charlie beats George. Whew!
I'm impressed with what Charlie has been doing the last couple weeks. He and George were trash talking before the match and then George 2-stocked him in casuals. Getting 4th place is a big deal; let's see if he can do well again next week. Beau is elusive as ever, but he showed why he is the #2 player by taking the winners bracket. Good job everyone!
NorCal is really lucky to host what may be the biggest Brawl tournament in the country this year. That means familiar names like Mew2King and ADHD will probably be in attendance. This would be a great tourney for everyone to try and practice their way up to. Not the easiest way to start out in competitive gaming , I know, but it should be a good experience.
Eh... no comment on tournament. Props to Mark for beating Kevin in Loser's Finals and props to Charlie for taking Nick S. out of the tournament. Kevin still stays #1.. for reasons. Grand Finals weren't so grand... lol. Anybody else have comments?
Oh and does anyone else want to vote for the players to decide the legal stage list? I think it would help us all as players to have more stages that are neutral than stages like Green Hill Zone.
I thought I'd post the results for the last few tournies since I haven't done so in a while.
5/24/11 1v1 1st Brandon 2nd Kevin 3rd Chip 4th Mark
Can't remember much about this one. Full of upsets though. Chips's G&W beat both Mark and Lambo. Brandon defeated Kevin in the finals.
5/31/11 1v1 1st Nick S 2nd Beau 3rd Mark 4th Brandon
Kevin upset again, this time by Nick. Nick's new character Fox is a good fit for him, and he's done well. Beau's loss in the finals was surprising, but it's just Beau being Beau.
6/7/11 1v1 1st Kevin 2nd Brandon 3rd Beau 4th Nick S
Kevin wins it this week. Brandon beats both Beau and Nick S.
I want to address the issue with banning certain stages, specifically Green Hill Zone. Now, I've relaxed the ban on certain stages because, while difficult to play, there is nothing inherently unfair or cheap about them. Shoryuken.com has this idea right: show me something that is outright broken or cheating, that gives certain characters clear advantages over others, and then we can discuss banning a stage.
I've done some research on opinions about this stage and it seems to me that while there are some "cheap" things like the signposts, there's nothing inherently broken. We don't have any good chain grabbing players. And we tend not to have players that camp and turtle (or, that do so while taking advantage of a specific stage).
I'm not sure if I told you how I feel about SBR, but I am not ready to take every word that they pass down as the "truth", when they are mostly a bunch of top players looking out for themselves.
There are certain stages in the list that are unfair, Shadow Moses in paticular. Most of the others are pretty good stages, nothing to horrible about green hill or mario kart or onett. Shadow moses is probably my only complaint.
I agree with Brandon. IN my opinion green hill and onett is considered fair and unfair.I'm not to worried about those stages when it gets picked and it can also be unfair to others. Shadow moses is my only complaint as well.
Green Hill Zone- Pretty unfair. The side blast lines are wayyy to close to the stage. The vertical ones are, however, not too close so it kind of evens out. Once people learn to camp this stage out too much I think it should be banned or when someone learns an infinite.
Onett- Pretty fair. CGs are interrupted easily.
Shadow Moses- So much to list.
What days are tournaments? I'm probably gonna drop in during those days. Missed so much but ah maybe some adjustments may be helping me. Picked up and dropped some characters so I may be doing worse or better. Ah.... I want last seed :P. Um if anybody's up for wi-fi sometime for training just send me a message or text me.

It was real guys. :)
Hey Phil that just dance game would it be a good idea to make it a dance tournament?
ReplyDeleteHey Phil maybe in a month or two how about street fighter IV for the xbox 360?
ReplyDeleteThe Just Dance tourney is a good idea. I think we'll do one on Wed or Thurs next week.
ReplyDeleteAs far as SFIV is concerned, the plan was to get it for our future PS3, becuase the 360's controller is absolutely terrible for fighting games. Plus, as it is now, the 360 is the Halo console is the eyes of most players.

Nice one guys
i think you should really get a ps3 so we could have MVC2 tourneys and other games that are not brawl or halo because those two game are getting played out and its making me angry
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply guys. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is a really good fighting game, but I think it'll be a while before we start playing it. We're still playing Tatsunoko, and I want to introduce the fighting games slowly so there is enough time to get into all of them. If you're here on Monday though, We'll try out Soul Calibur 4. P.S. I created a game thread for stuff like this.
I'll get out of first round next time.
ReplyDeleteTry and pass the second round Morris
ReplyDeletewhen are you going to upload the video?
ReplyDeleteUploading videos has been postponed indefinitely. My bad, I shouldn't have announced it so soon. I'll let you know when there's more info about this.
ReplyDeleteOh ok
ReplyDeleteHey Phil I forgot to ask you is there a prize or did it already happened.
ReplyDeleteFirst place prize is respect as usual. :)

It will be the only tourney for two weeks as I'm going on vacation for spring break.
whats the youtube link?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that Beau doesn't really try. Either that or he doesn't see the real point in winning. Either way, Beau is a good competitor and is exciting to watch, because he is unpredictable in all of his matches.
ReplyDeleteEither way, we have some great talent every Tuesday, and the competition is only going to get tighter.
Originally posted by Morris: But Alvin wasn't that hard to defeat when he played. I defeated him before.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Alvin plays Brawl anymore, so he's really rusty whenever he does. With that said, the level of play in the After School Zone is now much higher than it used to be. It takes a lot more effort to win now. Actually, it's cool seeing people try to switch things around every week. Players will get much better that way.

I'll add more about these later. Kevin was robbed in Brawl though. Mark lucked out and Kevin was hit by 2 objects in the finals. Anyone remember more?
The match was rigged. It was just bad luck for me. Oh well I will figure out something on the next tournament. I will try not to get hit by a car ever again.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree pretty much. And practice! Learn some basic combos, watch videos of good players playing. The more you play the game, the more confident you'll become.
ReplyDeleteNote about the Brawl tournament. We will be doing teams, but with a couple caveats. A person in the top 4 of rankings/seeds may not team with someone else in the top 4. Also, team attack will be on. This will force people to use actual teamwork and communicate. Hopefully this mixes things up.
ReplyDeleteThe Halo 3 tourney will be on the 1st Wednesday in May (the 5th).

ReplyDeleteBeau played really well. I'm happy he won his first tournament. I think he finally got over the hump.

ReplyDeleteFine I'll post yesterday's results:
ReplyDelete1st Morris
2nd Nick(Pikachu)

I'll leave it to Phil or Brandon or anyone else to post the rest
Now's as good a time as any to talk about the tournament results. There were a surprising amount of upsets. Maybe players are used to the slightly longer matches that took place during the team tournament. Or maybe things are a little different now. I guess we'll see next week.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that was noteworthy came from Nick S yesterday.
Looks like Morris got his victory while I was gone. I'll try to be there next week.
ReplyDeleteNo it's alrite Kevin take your time gettin back
ReplyDeleteLol Phil you made no comment bout me:(
ReplyDeleteHey Phil can I show u a couple replays from my SD card?
ReplyDeleteYou're talking about the replay saves from Brawl, right? I'm going to check on this, but I don't see a problem with that.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteBrandon, call the library and ask for me so we can speak about the Facebook page. Needless to say, you have to take it down.
ReplyDeleteSo are we having two tourneys tomorrow?
ReplyDeletePlz answer quickly Phil or txt me
ReplyDeleteHey, i just got this message. I'm still trying to figure out how to take it down. So don't think I'm not listening.
ReplyDeleteThe situation is all taken care of with Allison, I'm just happy it didn't get too serious!
ReplyDeleteYes it's Brawl replays.
ReplyDeleteWell the Brawl tourney's not done but Daniel had a nice showing by taking out Mark. So.......
ReplyDeleteThese people are left:
Daniel
Trevor
Kevin
Morris
Need to finish it up so we can have another tourney next week.
Can we run both tourneys at the same time? It might work out that way we can still do six pokemon instead of 4 and have enough time to finish up Brawl and do another Brawl tourney which Chip will be moderating.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah I was asking Phil
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure; in fact the Pokemon tourney was one of the reasons the Brawl tourney went over.
ReplyDeleteWe can do them at the same time, Morris, but I will DQ people who aren't there to play their match in Brawl if necessary.
Btw, last week's semifinalists should be here early to finish the unplayed matches. We're going to do those first.
Mark knocked out again? When will he learn to play serious all the time? >_<
ReplyDeletePretty interesting results so far
Double battle next week Phil but no teaming up with same person again.
ReplyDelete100th comment :)
ReplyDeleteThought I'd post the results of the last 2 tournaments:

I got a new character for the brawl tournaments.

9/16/10 Team Tourney
ReplyDelete1. Brandon/ Nick L.
2. Morris/ Patrick
4. Mark/ Vince
I think I proved that I can still play Toon Link and Marth in that tournament.Be prepared for a suprise next tourney
ReplyDeleteOk suprise me! But its no suprise I'll win this week! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThat depends if you can counter a R.O.B.
ReplyDeleteDude MR. Game and Watch and wolf.. have a very easy R.O.B matchup
ReplyDeleteTournaments are being moved to Wednesdays. So, the next tourney is tomorrow. See you there guys.
ReplyDeleteSome people have told me that they might not be able to come on Wednesdays. We'll talk about changing the day for next week, but it has to be Wednesday this week because I've already let a lot of people know.
ReplyDeletePhil, you should switch it back to Tuesdays, people were used to it before, and it would be better for the rest of us vets. Because we were at our prime when we did it on Tuesdays, plus it's better for me, I only have class until 12 and that's it.

ReplyDeleteThis is kind of weird, but I think it would be cool to have a Melee tournament.. why not? I mean it'd be different, competitive and fun. BTW my mains in that game are Marth and Sheik...
ReplyDeleteHere are the current results for the 9/28/10
ReplyDeleteTeam Tourney
Unspecified Results: Brandon/ Nick L.
Unspecified Results: Morris/ Patrick
3. Kevin/ Vince
4. Mark/ Charlie
Tournament finishes on 10/5/10
My mains in Melee are Jigglypuff Marth Falco and Captain Falcon
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who knows professional Brawl players or watches the matches, Ally(the best Snake player in the world) is dropping Snake for a "better character" it has not yet been announced who it is but speculation is that it is Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, or Meta Knight
ReplyDeleteI wasn't focusing on brawl that much because I was playing Mario Galaxy 2 last week. Now I'm focusing on getting 5 straight wins and it's goin to happen again.

ReplyDelete1st - Morris
2nd - Brandon
3rd - Mark
4th - Michael
I already got my number two spot back :P
ReplyDeletethe bad thing is that I can only go on Thursday's now. I might not enter in tournaments anymore unless I can ride my bike. I can't make it next week but maybe the next 2 weeks. I wanted Brandon 2 win that tournament.
ReplyDeleteKevin, dude, if you need a ride on Tuesday, I can take you every week if you need it. It's alright with me.

Good job guys! The finals were great. Halo tourney this Wed.

After Jason's shocking win at the last tourney, no expected him to repeat.....and he didn't, losing in the first round. Some new people did very well in their first tourney, with Spencer actually leading all players in kills going into the last round. No surprise with Simon and Charlie up there.

Really good tournament. Some nice upsets here and there. And Brandon's domination. Good game everyone. Hope to do it again next week.
Anyone want to say more. Phil? Kevin? Put some insight on today's tourney?
I had problems through the whole tournament. I could've lost early.
ReplyDeleteAnyway major upset of the day I think was was either me or Mark. Brandon pulled out 2 upsets today and winning his first tournament of the year.
Any thoughts about Brandon's dominance?
ReplyDeleteMe and Nick are so ready for today, can Nick help Brandon in his quest for 2 tourneys in a row?
ReplyDeletePatrick and KEVIN are ready for some domination today, after Kevin's humiliating loss last week. Will he be back for a vengance?
Will Mark and Charlie pull a surprise victory?
Morris and Vince, how will they hold up?
Have anything to say about the tourney Nick? I just saw a few of the matches.

We're going to open earlier tomorrow at 2PM. So the tournament will be starting at 3ish. Come a little early and help set up.

Just so everyone knows, there is a big tournament coming up in July called Genesis 2. It's going to be in Antioch. Here's the link:

NorCal is really lucky to host what may be the biggest Brawl tournament in the country this year. That means familiar names like Mew2King and ADHD will probably be in attendance. This would be a great tourney for everyone to try and practice their way up to. Not the easiest way to start out in competitive gaming , I know, but it should be a good experience.
Next time I'll be aware of those cannonballs lol
ReplyDeleteI hope I get to go to Genesis 2 :)

Eh... no comment on tournament.
OK for now on I'm going to be more serious in these tournaments since I'm going to Genesis
ReplyDeleteMorris that's not a bad idea if people really wants to do it
I thought I'd post the results for the last few tournies since I haven't done so in a while.

1st Brandon
2nd Kevin
3rd Chip
4th Mark
Can't remember much about this one. Full of upsets though. Chips's G&W beat both Mark and Lambo. Brandon defeated Kevin in the finals.
5/31/11 1v1
1st Nick S
2nd Beau
3rd Mark
4th Brandon
Kevin upset again, this time by Nick. Nick's new character Fox is a good fit for him, and he's done well. Beau's loss in the finals was surprising, but it's just Beau being Beau.

ReplyDeleteI've done some research on opinions about this stage and it seems to me that while there are some "cheap" things like the signposts, there's nothing inherently broken.
What do you guys think?
There are certain stages in the list that are unfair, Shadow Moses in paticular. Most of the others are pretty good stages, nothing to horrible about green hill or mario kart or onett. Shadow moses is probably my only complaint.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brandon. IN my opinion green hill and onett is considered fair and unfair.I'm not to worried about those stages when it gets picked and it can also be unfair to others. Shadow moses is my only complaint as well.
ReplyDeleteFine I'll comment.
ReplyDeleteGreen Hill Zone- Pretty unfair.
